In 2004 James Sofronas finished 4th in the Touring Driver's Championship under the Tecmark/GMG banner in a BMW 325is with two podiums, four top-5s and nine top-10 finishes with a best of 2nd place finish at Road America.
James stated, "I can't wait to race again with my brother, he has been a great teammate and an even better brother as he has supported me throughout our racing years. It's good to have him back, he is both talented and competitive and that will help both of us get to the front."
Brad, brother to James, has two World Challenge GT career starts in a supercharged BMW M3, as well as three seasons of World Challenge competition in the Touring Car class. He has two top- 5 finishes and three top 10s Brad also received the B & M Shifter Hole Shot award for passing 19 cars on the first lap during the rain soaked Lime Rock SPEED Touring Car race, in a BMW 328i. "I am really excited about this year. This is the first time in my racing career that I have really good equipment. I hope I can rise to the occasion. The Porsche 911 is a proven entity, and should be very competitive throughout the season."
When asked about his teammate, Brad responded "What better teammate to have than your own brother! We raced together as teammates under the GREEK BROTHERS RACING banner in 1994 and 1995. I feel honored to resurrect that association this year with GMG and my brother. He has proven himself as an excellent racer in both classes and I will look to him all season long for guidance. GMG and GBR look forward to a strong finish this weekend at Road Atlanta."
James added, “With the recent success of our performance tuning business in Southern California shifting toward a larger Porsche client base, we felt it was important to compete in a car that represented a majority of our customers and the products we sell. GMG is one of the premier European performance tuning companies in Southern California . The majority of our business is working with the Porsche marque, from street tuning, which includes custom software applications, turbo upgrades, suspension modifications, exhaust upgrades, and complete turnkey packages to full racecar prep from the Club Racing Level to the Pro Level. We plan on entering a few customer cars in the Michelin IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge this year as well as a three-to-four car GMG Porsche team for competition in 2006 in Speed GT.”
"I have always raced BMW's and will continue to do so, but after acquiring this new Porsche, I have quickly become a big fan of the marque. We have done some initial testing and found the car to be incredibly quick and agile while having great brakes and strong acceleration out of tight corners. We know the competition is incredible in the GT class but we feel we can run up front with some more testing."
The team returns with Fabryce Kutyba as crew chief and part owner of GMG as well as our top Porsche Certified mechanic Dave Peters, along with Luis Costa, our chassis and body specialist. Plus we have the added benefit of working with the talented Nathan McBride, our team engineer, and J3, who built the car. We feel we have a team of experienced, dedicated and passionate professionals who all share the same passion for racing and competing at the highest level of motorsports, so we look forward to competing the rest of the year.
With this effort comes a lot of continued support from our sponsors who have been with us from day one. They include Eibach, Moton, Sparco, SSF and BBS.
