Capaldi Ready for Mid-Ohio
Lexington, Ohio - Leo Capaldi, driver and owner of the number 68/LC Racing/GKN Sinter Metals/Ford Focus, unloads at Mid-Ohio optimistic about competing in his second SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge Touring series race of the season.
Since Sebring, the LC Racing team has not been idle. "Sebring confirmed many of the improvements that we incorporated into the car during the off season, it also brought about some new issues that we have worked on since that first race," said Capaldi.
"We had the opportunity to go up to Canada to Multimatics four-post suspension machine. We were able to see exactly how the dynamics of the dampers, sway bars and the entire suspension reacted. This has allowed us to put a good baseline setting under the car and build in some additional adjustability that we did have not have before."
In addition to the suspension tuning, the team also installed the next evolution of the 2.3-liter engine under the hood of the Focus for this weekend. "We built a new air intake for the car. The one we had last year and for Sebring was a stop-gap until we could really do it right. The new intake has given us a little better low end power, which will be a big help here at Mid-Ohio with its 13-turns."
The team took to Gingerman Raceway in western Michigan during the down time between events to prove the upgrades. "Gingerman is similar to Mid-Ohio where you have just about every kind of corner that there is on a racetrack," continued Capaldi. "It was nice to get the complete upgraded car on the track and feel the improvements and see the results on the stop-watch as well."
The race at Mid-Ohio will be run on Sunday, May 22 and will be televised on Speed Channel, Sunday, May 28th at 3:00 p.m. EST.
The team's primary sponsor, GKN Sinter Metals is an industry leader in providing the world's transportation companies with powder metal (P/M) technology. LC Racing would also like to thank associate sponsors Ford Racing Performance.
